Now 2013 . . .
This post has been a month in the making - all four paragrphs of it.
I am a planner. By mid-July 2012 I was already thinking about races and travels for 2013. I'll admit, I'm not always the best at being spontaneous or "being in the moment." While "big picture" goals are important as a guide to get you were you ultimately want to go, I feel like I got too caught up in the "big picture" in 2012 and focused a lot on the "next big thing" instead of enjoying what was right in front of me.
Therefore, I am taking 2013 a little more "day-by-day" instead of planning out a huge calendar for the year. I have spent a lot of Janaury thinking about resolutions/goals but every time I sit down to write about them it just doesn't feel right so I won't right now. There are defiantly some "main" events on the calendar and as those get closer I will be excited to discuss them. There are things I want to accomplish this year - places I want to go, races I want to race, and things I want to learn but I am not sure I can get to them all this year and I want to be okay with that.
However, I will give you my first goal of the year . . . to cross the finish line of my first ultra marathon. I was lucky enough to be accepted into the lottery for the Way Too Cool 50k in Cool, California on March 9, 2013 - 31 miles for my 31st year.
A back flare up at Christmas got my training off on the wrong foot so I am feeling a little behind in my training. That being said I preference this goal with being able to complete the rest of my training cycle injury free. I will not be pushing myself to complete something I do not feel prepared or healthy enough for. So far so good though as my runs have all been really great since I have been able to run again.
So, there you have it. Goal #1 and I am going to soak in every minute of it.
