Countdown to Rev3 70.3: Week 13

As I mentioned at the end of this post, I still hadn't committed 100% to racing the Rev3 Portland 70.3 on July 8.  I was going forward with training but I wasn't sure how my back was going to handle the return to distance running and was been hesitant to post any sort of "official" training recaps as I didn't want to have back out if things weren't going well.

Well, I am beyond thrilled to report that not only am I running again, I am 95% pain free.  Multiple doctors, treatments, x-rays, opinions later I have found a doctor who has finally been able to help me.  He is a doctor of osteopathic medicine and discovered that my right hip tilts forward and is slowly working on realigning it.  I see him every two weeks for a manipulation which is nothing more than light pressure applied to different areas of the body.  Seriously, I once asked him what he was even doing as I couldn't feel a thing!  My hip is still not staying in place but with every manipulation it is moving slightly less each time. 

I am not 100% and my hips and legs get extremely tight if I am not diligent about my stretching but I will take this ANY DAY over the pain I was experiencing as it doesn't inhibit my daily movement.  Obviously, I knew how the pain was effecting my running but I had no idea how much it was impacting my daily life.  I am so thankful to have finally found someone who could give me a real diagnosis and prescribe a treatment that works. 

March 5 was the "official" start of training but I wanted to give myself a month to see how my body responded to the running before I made any public declarations.  After a successful month I am happy to report I am officially racing on July 8!

As of Monday, April 2, there were 13 weeks til race day.  Here is the plan for April:


This plan also incorporates my training for the Aids Lifecycle Ride (ALC) and the Pleasanton Half Marathon at the end of the month.

That would be only two missed workouts - one swim and my long run.  Nothing out of the ordinary about any of these workouts.  RPM with my favorite instructor and beautiful weather for my 40 miler on Easter.

In the next 12 weeks I have two half marathons, a sprint tri, olympic tri, century ride and of course ALC (much more to come on this).  In the past 4 weeks I raced a 10k, a 12k, a 10 mile race and attempted a metric century that was derailed by some crazy weather (race reports forth coming). 

I am so happy to be back!
