Say Yes to the Dress

Sometimes there are things that are just more exciting than running, cycling and swimming - like WEDDINGS!!  I may have mentioned before that I just love weddings!  I even briefly contemplated giving up law school to be a wedding planner.

I have had the honor in being in five of my best friends weddings - three times as the maid of honor and twice as a bridesmaid.

2004 - MOH for my best friend J
2006 - Bridesmaid for my friend C
2007 - MOH for my best friend Alisa
2009 - MOH for my sister-in-law
2010 - Bridesmaid for my best friend T
and now . . .
as my baby sister's Maid of Honor!
(her as my maid of honor at my wedding)

Fun Fact: My friends get engaged when I go to other peoples weddings.  For example, T got engaged the night of my sister-in-laws wedding, my sister got engaged the night Kevin and I attended another friends wedding in April.  If you are looking to get engaged send me to a wedding - it might be your lucky night!

The date has been set (May 2012), the place has been picked and reserved (the same I got married - what can I say, she has good taste) so today my sister, mom and some other bridesmaids took to the streets to find THE dress!!

We had two stops on the agenda - Trudy's and Bay Area Bridal.  Trudy's was actually where I found my wedding dress so it was fun to go back.  The shop is really nice and we had the whole back area to ourselves.

Like most brides, my sister came armed with photos of what she fell in love with in magazines and like most brides (myself included) fell in love with something completely different once she tried the dresses on.  I remember specifically not wanting a strapless dress - I wanted cap sleeves.  So much so that the first day I went dress shopping I refused to even try a strapless dress on.  On our second trip J convinced me just to "try" a strapless dress and from then on I refused to try anything else - strapless it was.

My sister has the perfect body so everything looked gorgeous on her.

Don't worry - none of these are "THE" dress
But how do you know when you have found "THE" dress?

Tears! While nothing was purchased today, we clearly found a front runner.  There were many beautiful dresses but after this dress, none of them really compared.  She was truly stunning!

We had a bit of time to peruse bridesmaid dresses as well.  We know they will be short and pink but we didn't come up with any winners just yet.

I was so happy for her that she found a dress so quickly.  It took me 5 bridal shops before I even found a dress I even wanted to consider going back and trying on a second time but when you know, you know.

I am so happy for my sister.  She has met a wonderful man who I am thrilled will be joining the family.  Even though he called and talked to my parents before he asked her, he even called and talked to me personally about it.  He treats her like a queen and couldn't have hand picked someone better myself.

I am so excited for everything coming in the next few months and planning the shower and bachelorette party.  It has been a year since my last wedding and I have missed it!

So, I have to ask, do you have/did you have your dream wedding dress picked out?  Did you go with it or end up with something completely different?

  1. My daughter had hers picked out a year before she even got engaged. She tried on a few others before we went to the shop that had it. Once she put hers on, there was no doubt that was "it". She ended up ordering it from a great shop in Pleasanton, where we first went to try on dresses (Jaime' Bridal on Main Street).

The week after she was engaged, we had the dress ordered and paid for.

When you know, you know. ;)

  2. I think I might be the lamest bride ever. The only dress I tried on was the one I got married in - and it was just a $300 dress from J. Crew! I never went to a bridal shop or anything. But I loved my dress, so I guess that's all that really matters!

  3. Awwwww I can't believe Lisa is getting married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You look beautiful in all those photos. We all look so young at Jaime's wedding.

  4. I love that you put, "don't worry she didn't choose any of these" because I actually loved a couple of those. lol...can't wiat to see THE ONE.

You look lovely in all those pictures. No wonder everybody wants you in thier wedding. A good looking bridal party.

I appreciate your comments. Thanks for taking the time to leave one!
