Crow Pose

THANK YOU so much for the birthday wishes! I had a wonderful day - I feel like the luckiest girl alive. Even though I spent the day studying I loved all the comments, facebook messages, and texts I got throughout the day. My co-workers even called and sang me "Happy Birthday" over the phone. I also was totally spoiled. In terms of workout gear I got two new running tanks, two visors, a yoga tank and a new pair of shorts.

And . . . I GOT A BIKE TRAINER!! Well, I don't have it yet, but it should be delivered next week. I got the Kinetic by Kurt Rock 'N Roll trainer. What I love about this trainer is while it is still considered "stationary" (not like rollers) it rocks back and forth to simulate the feeling of being out on the road. I can't wait for it to come.
On my birthday I headed over to the gym assuming the spin class would be at 9:15, however, when I got there I saw that spinning was at 9:15 only on M,W,F. There was a yoga class going on though so I figured, eh, it was my birthday, I wanted a more "relaxing" workout. So here is my thing with yoga - I LOVE yoga but I am not good at the breathing part of it. I can't just "let myself go and follow my breath." If anything that is when my mind starts running a mile a minute. The other thing is I go so sporadically that I don't feel like I ever really reap the benefits that yoga has to offer. I really hope that once my life becomes normal again I can go at least once a week. That being said I have added another goal for 2010 - to hold Crow Pose for at least 30 seconds (see below).

I wanted to post a pic of my current version of "crow" but I can't seem to figure out how to work the timer on my camera so when Kevin comes home I will have him take it of me. I really think this is something I can master with a little more arm strength. I was able to hit up spinning on Wednesday and I wore my PowerBalanceBand so I can give you a review of how I think it affected my performance. I also did yoga without it on Tuesday so I will wear it to yoga next time so I can compare.

Are you a yogi? What is your favorite pose? Any you wish you could do?

I really wish I could do "standing bow" but I think "crow" might be a better starting point. :)

  1. I used to be able to do crow pose :( That's what happens when you have a baby! You lose it... Maybe I'll make that a goal of mine too...

  2. Sounds like a cool trainer. I HATED riding my bike on a trainer. Some rocking may have helped!

I've never done yoga and am too ashamed to go to a class since I am so inflexible. I did get a good stretching book and my mom (who does take yoga) said it is pretty similar.

I am TOTALLY impressed you can do that crow pose for ANY length of time! Holy cow!

  3. We went back and forth between the Kinetic and the CycleOpps, we eneded up with the CycleOpps but they are both great.

I don't think I'll ever be able to do crow pose.

I wish I could get into yoga. I was into it for awhile then I fell off the wagon and now I feel like there are too many other things I'd rather be doing =). I could probably use a little yoga in my life.

  4. Ouch!!! I can't even do the splits so I'm pretty sure that bow thing is out of the picture for me. Happy Belated Birthday - I love all your loot! Let us know what you think of the trainer - I don't have one, but maybe I should invest in one!

  5. I used to feel the same way about yoga, but recently started going regularly (only once a week - but still...) and I have been reaping the rewards much more and generally having better expereinces. Keep it up and see if you have the same.

    Cool trainer!
